Yesterday we enjoyed a few hours out of the office to visit our lovely client Kemtile at BeerX – the UK’s biggest beer and brewing trade show that has taken place this week in Liverpool. And never before have we seen so many beards and beer being drunk at an expo!

Kemtile is the brewery industry’s leading hygienic flooring and drainage designer and installer and we’re proud to say that we’ve undertaken some great multi-channel sectoral support campaigns for them.

And despite some experts warning that the craft beer bubble is bursting, the show was jam-packed full of ideas, ambition, enthusiasm and innovation.

So, without further ado, let’s go back to Exhibition Centre Liverpool – on the city’s Unesco-listed, very windy waterfront – to talk about our highlights from the show.

#1 Colorscan showcased its quality creative pump clips

Over the past 20 years, they have produced thousands of designs all of which are unique in shape and size.  And never have branding and first impressions when you get to the bar been quite so important.

In an increasingly competitive and innovative market, beer artwork designs are increasingly dazzling and cutting edge, so it was great to see how they can be translated on to pump clips on Colorscan’s stand.

The makeover of pump clips, bottle labels and packaging are increasingly pivotal to craft’s appeal. As agency creative types, this is a really interesting area for them. Big thanks to founder and director Keith for his time telling us about the business and how it came about. Really interesting.

The kind-hearted people at Colorscan also supported The Great Get Together in memory of Jo Cox. Created by a UK-wide brewery collective, the company donated pump clips for The Great Get Together Pale Ale. A lovely initiative and gesture, don’t you think? And take a look at the designs it created for the TV show The Grand Tour that’s presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

#2 Makro Labelling UK showcased ‘star machine’

The labelling machines supplier made the most of BeerX to showcase Eurostar products after being appointed sole agents for the Italian bottling equipment line manufacturer in the UK and Ireland.

This really excellent range of filling equipment – for both glass bottles and cans – have gained a great reputation around the world for their high-quality equipment.

The rise of the ‘craft can’ is being driven by a new wave of microbreweries that is following the US trend for putting highly-hopped beers in kegs and cans to accentuate their freshness. We’re seeing more come through from Kemtile’s many brewery clients although bottles remain most popular. Thanks to Oliver for his time on the stand with us.

#3 A great show for

It was great to chat to IT and Marketing Manager Chris about the bespoke printed box company, it’s history and plans for the future.

The firm supplies breweries across the country with branded, unbranded and bespoke gift boxes – just like those shown in the pics below. New to its range are these beer crates which we were told are already a great success. Just look at them. It’s easy to see why.

#4 Stopped in our show tracks by Berkshire Labels

We couldn’t help but stop and chat to the guys at Berkshire Labels when we saw this simply stunning display. Just how fabulous did it look?

#5 Showstopping kit from Stainless Steel Vessels Ltd

We’re always blown away by the combination of gleaming metal brewing kit and Kemtile’s Kagetec ceramic flooring when photography for each new brewery client case study comes through to us. You can see one example below and find lots more here.

So, it was great to actually see some of it in real life and take a look around it at the show. Even better, SSVs stand was right opposite Kemtile’s so we got to look at it all day long. Stunning.

#6 And it was a great couple of days for our lovely client Kemtile…

It was great to spend some time on the stand of our longstanding client Kemtile, meeting many past, current and hopefully new customers and speaking to so many passionate people when it comes to brewing.

Kemtile’s brewery credentials speak for themselves – having worked with start-up micro-breweries to global brands such as Heineken and everything in between.

It’s also proud to have been there at the start for many of the UK’s up and coming brands – being called back to complete more projects and expansions as their brewing businesses boom.

We think Richard Archer, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Utopian Brewing (brewery pictured above) sums its success up perfectly. At Souter PR, we hear this kind of feedback from Kemtile customers all the time.

“Put simply, Kemtile’s business model at every stage of the project process was brilliant – and I don’t feel that we paid a huge premium for such a top-quality job. With such great brewery credentials, the company has a very defined quality position in the UK market. Despite its high-quality products and services, it manages to remain competitive, which is what makes them the de facto go-to people for brewery floors. The quality of Kemtile’s floors and workmanship is obvious. This is why so many breweries choose them. It’s certainly why we did.” Lovely to see you Richard.
