Derby County forward Tom Ince today helped launch a new app aimed at young Rams fans to get them practising and perfecting a range of footballing skills.

He joined the local youngsters, aged from 4-11, at the Powerleague Derby Soccerdome in Derby, to try out the new Fuel your Skills app  and film key skills coached as part of the club’s year-long soccer programme.

Ably demonstrating the Maradona 7, Rainbow Flick and Turn and Shoot among other skills Tom helped young Rams perform and film their own attempts via the app.

He said: “Close ball control is so important in today’s game and this app will encourage young players to get much better at it and capture the best bits for sharing with their friends and families – and ultimately to win prizes.”

Fuel Your Skills is a joint venture between Derby County Football Club and Souter PR client bakery brand Roberts, who have a 12-month sponsorship with the club.

The club’s soccer school programme, run by Derby County Community Trust regularly attracts over 7500 children throughout the year.

Coaches will be encouraging young attendees and their parents to get the app and start filming skills during the school programme and at home.

Once the app has been downloaded users will be able to upload and share skills videos and generate votes to get to the top of a built-in leader board.

The app itself will filter videos by skills and age –there is no limit to how many you can upload – and developers at Roberts Bakery hope it might even uncover a Derby County star of the future.

Those topping the leader board at the end of the summer will win tickets with hospitality, a Derby County shirt signed by the whole team and a pitchside photocall with Tom.

The year-long winners – which will be announced in June 2017 – will watch Derby’s first-team train and enjoy lunch with the players.

Derby County Community Trust co-ordinator Simon Carnall, said: “We are delighted to be working with Roberts on this innovative extension to their support for the club and are excited by the app’s potential to engage young fans and their families.”

Robert Higginson, Chairman of Frank Roberts and Sons, and a keen football fan commented: “We want the app to showcase the best of Derby’s young footballing talent, inspired by top professionals like Tom Ince, driven by the club’s highly respected soccer schools and in time attracting all footballing families across Derby.

“The aim of the app for Roberts Bakery is to associate nutritious, energy-giving qualities of bread with healthy active lifestyles for young fans and their families as part of the wider partnership with the football club.”

As well as its Cheshire bakery Roberts also has a bakery in Ilkeston where it bakes 1.4 million products a week, employs 130 staff and distributes to supermarkets and independent retailers across the Derbyshire area.
