Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day to you from us. Whether you prefer tongue in cheek statements or bold, passionate manifestations, the annual day of romance is upon us.

Love it or loathe it, V-Day is an excellent £43 million opportunity for brands and retailers to express their marketing magic with the most couply – and sometimes cringeworthy – campaigns and content.

Well we don’t care what they say. Here at Souter PR, we just love it. We’re especially keen on the many super-cool stunts and stories that the day allows – embracing the occasion to drive awareness, engagement  and ultimately sales.

This year is no exception. Here are five of our favourites. Have we missed any of yours? Let us know.

Love in London’ photo competition

Creative dating app CLiKD is asking budding photographers could see their snaps displayed at dozens of prominent spots across London as part of a campaign to “cheer up our city”.

Launching on 14 February, the Love in London photography competition is inviting submissions celebrating “love, diversity and unity” in the capital.

The winning photos will be shown on digital billboards at King’s Cross and Euston stations as well as bus stops in central London.

Love train

Findings of a new study by National Rail suggest that Britons are more likely to meet the love of their life at a social gathering than at work or through dating. In the poll of 2,000 adults, a quarter of married couples met on a night or day out with friends – and on a train, of course.

As well as hitting the headlines, National Rail is release an eBook containing some of the most romantic and funny rail-related love stories. “We wanted to highlight those who met on their commute, used the train to keep their relationship alive and even those who got engaged on a train or train platform.”

And if you’re looking to meet someone randomly on the street, then you should consider moving to the West Midlands!

Pri Love You

Budget chain store Primark continues to hold its place in the nation’s bargain hunters’ hearts with its perfectly timed, bargain-priced picks.

The retailer is selling this heart-shaped, rose-red handbag for Valentine’s Day – sending fans into a frenzy with its latest Valentine’s Day piece – and it’s only £8

Put a ring on it

What could be more romantic than a Valentine’s Day proposal? Popping the questions to the love of your life with a doughnut engagement ring, of course!

For those 1.8 million Brits who are hoping for this ultimate romantic gesture today, Deliveroo has teamed up with Doughnut Time to create a pair of mini doughnut rings. And not only look delightful, but they’ll go down a treat too.

Are you loving it?

For anyone in and around Newcastle who is still unsure as to how they’ll treat their other half today, McDonald’s could hold the answer for Romeos (and indeed Juliet’s) on a budget.

Hot on the heels of bakery chain Greggs four course, £15 pastry feast for two, this burger branch is offering lovebirds a sit-down meal of cheddar bites, nuggets or carrot sticks for starters, followed by a main course of burgers and a McFlurry or apple pie for dessert – all for the bargain price of £20.
