With National Toast Day upon us – and Roberts bakery being one of our lovely clients – we’ve decided to take a look at the most insta’rational recipes and tastiest toppings to celebrate the date this Saturday 23rd February.
And its following is fierce. At the time of drafting this post, there are 3,740,172 #toast tagged posts on Instagram, which just goes to show how much we love a simple slice or two. In fact, it even has its own dedicated day of the week – #toasttuesday – not to mention the support of #stuffontoast #toastsforall #thingsontoast #toasttoppers… the list of hunger-inducing hashtags goes on.
And let’s not forget the ever-popular ‘avocado on toast’. The first recorded sighting on a menu is rumoured to be in 1993 when Sydney chef Bill Granger started serving it at his cafe, Bills. Then in 1999, our very own Nigel Slater suggested a smashed avocado on toast recipe in his column for The Guardian. Fast forward to 1993, and Gwyneth Paltrow endorsed it in her best-selling cookbook ‘It’s All Good’. You only have to take a look at some of the million+ #avocadotoast posts today to get an idea of its popularity.
The latest ‘avo aficionado’ to come forward is Meghan Markle with her ‘soul satisfying’ avocado on toast recipe that she served to her pal on a silver platter – according to national news headlines last week, anyway.
So, here we have it. Our round up of some of the tastiest insta’rational #toast posts to get you in the mood for the big day. What are yours?
Goodoldvegan – smashed avocado sourdough toasts
Avocado toast remains important for insta’s visual content creators. It’s become such an integral part of the Instagrammer’s repertoire, that coffees have been known to go cold while shots are composed, and cutlery placed just so. But it just looks so lovely – especially here with the vibrancy of sundried tomatoes and mushrooms. 5680 people thought so too.
nanahealthyjourney – #eggsandwich
With healthy recipes and stunning toast shots like this, it’s no wonder that nanahealthyjourney has amassed 42k followers as she successfully set out upon her weight loss plan. We’re sure she’s inspiring many other foodies to do the same as they don’t just look great, they’re helping others to get slimmer and healthier too.
Avokween – egg on toast
We’re loving the orange of this runny egg yolk. Did you know that the colour of the yolk is easy way of gauging just how healthy and nutritious your eggs actually are? Generally, the darker the colour, the happier the chicken that laid it was, the better quality it’s feed and finer its eggs. This one must have been laid by one content chick!
crumbtopbaking – melted brie, fresh blueberries and a drizzle of honey
We love this savoury-sweet, cheesy-fruity combo from crumbtopbaking. As do some 1800 insta followers.
Sophiebuh79 – toasts with beetroot cream, pear and pumpkin seeds
We think that this recipe rustled up and sensationally styled by sophiebuh79 is absolutely stunning, don’t you? Take a look at more from the French foodie living in the South of France here.
robertsbakeryuk – stilton, pear and walnut toasts
Last but not least are these delicious stilton, pear and walnut toasts from our fabulous client, Roberts.
So delicious the recipe and strong the shots, we secured it a most prestigious place in Metro.co.uk’s top seven sandwich fillings for National Sandwich Day.
